REIKI

Making Space for Stillness, Rest and Connection With Yourself.

There are times when we spend so much energy responding to the demands of everyday life that we rarely give ourselves permission to stop.

Our attention is directed towards responsibilities, relationships, problems to solve and things still waiting to be done.

Reiki offers a quiet, structured opportunity to pause.

Originating in Japan, Reiki is a complementary practice traditionally associated with the idea of universal life energy. It is generally offered through gentle hand placements or with the practitioner’s hands held near the body.

Some people experience Reiki sessions as restful or deeply calming. Others notice very little, and experiences vary.

I include Reiki among the complementary approaches available in my work, always taking into account your preferences, needs and personal beliefs.

For me, the value of the experience begins with making room for your own needs and allowing yourself time without demands or expectations.

UNDERSTANDING THE PRACTICE

What Is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese practice developed in the early twentieth century by Mikao Usui.

The word is commonly associated with the Japanese concepts of universal or spiritual energy and life energy.

Within Reiki traditions, practitioners understand the practice as working with this energy to support harmony and wellbeing.

A conventional in-person session may involve the practitioner gently placing their hands on or near different areas of the body while the recipient rests, usually fully clothed.

The practice is often described as an opportunity for relaxation, reflection and quiet attention.

The existence of a specific healing energy transmitted through Reiki has not been scientifically demonstrated.

Research into Reiki has explored possible effects on experiences such as relaxation and wellbeing, but the evidence is limited and does not establish Reiki as a treatment for health conditions.

I believe it is important to respect the tradition while being transparent about what we know and what remains unproven.

You can approach Reiki with curiosity, without needing to adopt a particular spiritual belief.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

What Might You Notice?

People describe Reiki experiences in different ways. There is no particular sensation or outcome that you are expected to have.

A Sense of Rest

You may enjoy having time set aside without needing to speak, perform or solve anything.

Relaxation

Some people report feeling calmer or more relaxed during or after a session.

Physical Sensations

You may notice warmth, tingling or other ordinary bodily sensations, or you may notice none.

Emotional Awareness

A quiet experience may give you time to recognise feelings that have been difficult to notice during a busy day.

Reflection

You may become more aware of what you need, what has been occupying your attention or how you have been feeling.

A Different Experience Each Time

Your experience may change from one occasion to another. There is no correct response to Reiki.

These are possible personal experiences, not promised effects. You do not need to interpret any sensation as evidence of energy movement or healing.

MY PERSPECTIVE

The Value of Giving Ourselves Permission to Pause.

Much of my coaching work involves helping women recognise their needs, understand their reactions and make more conscious choices.

One pattern I often encounter is the difficulty of allowing ourselves to rest.

We may feel responsible for everyone around us. We may associate our value with how much we accomplish or how useful we are to others.

Even when we are exhausted, stopping can feel uncomfortable.

Reiki can provide a structured occasion to step away from those demands.

I see it as one possible complementary experience for women who appreciate quiet, reflective practices.

I do not consider it necessary for personal development, and it is not part of every client’s work.

What matters is whether the experience feels appropriate and meaningful to you.

Rest does not need to be earned through exhaustion.

WORKING TOGETHER

An Approach That Respects Your Preferences.

Portrait of Evdoxia Stoupi

We begin by discussing what you are looking for and what you would feel comfortable exploring.

If Reiki interests you, I explain the practice, answer your questions and discuss whether it has a place in our work.

You do not need to believe in Reiki’s traditional explanation of energy to have a conversation about it.

You are also free to decide that it is not for you.

My coaching sessions are conducted online. Traditional hands-on Reiki is an in-person practice, so I do not present an online session as equivalent to receiving hands-on Reiki.

Where appropriate, we can explore quiet, reflective or relaxation-based practices within an online coaching session.

Any Reiki-related offering, including its format and practical arrangements, must be clearly explained and agreed in advance.

How It Works

AN OPEN AND RESPECTFUL APPROACH

Do I Need to Believe in Energy Healing?

Reiki has a spiritual and philosophical history, and different practitioners understand it in different ways.

Some people approach Reiki through its traditional ideas about energy.

Others are interested in the quiet atmosphere, gentle attention or opportunity to rest.

You are welcome to bring your own perspective.

I will not ask you to adopt beliefs that are unfamiliar or uncomfortable for you.

If you prefer an approach grounded in conversation, mindfulness or somatic awareness, we can work in those ways instead.

Your beliefs, questions and boundaries deserve respect.

You do not have to share my interests or beliefs for us to work together.

FINDING WHAT SUPPORTS YOU

Different Practices for Different Needs.

My work draws on coaching, trauma-informed principles, somatic awareness, mindfulness and other complementary approaches.

Each has a different purpose.

Coaching offers space to explore your goals, beliefs, choices and relationships.

Somatic practices invite attention to bodily sensations and responses.

Mindfulness can help you notice your experience in the present moment.

Reiki offers a different kind of complementary experience, traditionally centred on quiet attention and gentle hand-based practice.

We can discuss which approaches interest you and which feel relevant to your goals.

There is no requirement to use every method I have trained in.

The approach should serve your needs, not the other way around.

YOUR WELLBEING MATTERS

Clear Expectations and Informed Choices.

Reiki is a complementary practice. It is not a medical or psychological treatment.

There is no reliable scientific evidence that Reiki can diagnose conditions, cure illnesses, repair physical injuries or treat psychological disorders.

It should never delay or replace appropriate healthcare.

If you are receiving medical or psychological treatment, Reiki should not be used as a reason to change or discontinue that care.

Any hands-on practice requires your informed consent, including agreement about whether touch is involved and where.

You may decline touch, request adjustments or stop an exercise at any time.

In our work, your preferences and boundaries remain central.

Coaching and Reiki do not replace medical, psychological or psychiatric care when such care is needed.
